Because it’s Thursday Friday cat is in your PC, stealing your RAMZ.

IBM and Stanford University have reportedly modeled the complete cerebral cortex of a cat using the Blue Gene supercomputer.

No word yet on whether the computer gets upset and pees in front of your door if you don’t spend enough time playing solitaire with it.

There is a lot of excitement right now about the new George Clooney film, The Men Who Stare at Goats. After all, who could resist a movie that starts by mixing humor with stories featuring psychic arts and peaceful warriors sporting all-seeing eye tattoos, loosely drawn from a real-life military ESP program, and which then winds up during the war in Iraq with the liberation of a stable full of doomed goats destined to be stared to death!

Join former Army psychic warrior Maj. Paul H. Smith (US Army, ret.) as he spins the stories behind the stories of The Men Who Stare at Goats, touching on secrets, straightening out twisted tales, and excavating down to bedrock truth about the soldiers who used ESP to keep track of America’s Cold War foes. For seven years, Paul H. Smith was assigned to the military psychic espionage program eventually known as Star Gate. He is author of Reading the Enemy’s Mind: Inside Star Gate—America’s Psychic Espionage Program (Tor/Forge, 2005), which was the Book Bonus and Editor’s Choice feature for the March 2006 Reader’s Digest.

Paul is President and Chief Instructor for Austin-based Remote Viewing Instructional Services, Inc. (www.rviewer.com) and President of the International Remote Viewing Association (www.irva.org).

Witch Hunters at Anomaly Magazine

GoogleAdSnailSpam5

Google Spams ANOMALY Magazine

GoogleAdSnailSpam1

Not too long ago the PO Box for ANOMALY Magazine began getting spammed by multiple snail-mailings from Google.com offerring us discount coupons for use in their online adwords advertising service.

What surprised us were the numbers of names and position titles that their addressing system included in the address lines which ranged from Programming Director to Paranormal Investigator. But the one that truly caught our attention (and which obviated how they had harvested names and titles from this site’s content) was marked for the attention of Thomas Muthee … WITCH HUNTER !! Clearly, the name had been lifted straight out of Jeremy Wells’ article on African Witch Stories or rather his Oooo Hooo Withcy Woman post about the strange connections between Sarah Palin and African Witch Hunters.

Rest assured dear readers, we do not employ any witch doctors or witch hunters here at ANOMALY magazine.

Fortean luft balons

red_balloon_by_seafoodmwg

It’s not Thursday. It’s not even Friday. But here is a random link, just to get your week started up right.

From the Mental Floss article on the best “message in a bottle” stories we have this  story of a message on a balloon.

In June 2001, 10-year old Laura Buxton released a red balloon into the air over her hometown of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England. On one side of the balloon, she had written “Please return to Laura Buxton,” and on the other side, her home address. A few weeks later, a man 140 miles away in Milton Lilbourne found the balloon stuck in the hedge that separated his farm from the next-door neighbors. He noticed Laura Buxton’s name and address and immediately took the balloon to the neighbors’ house, showing it to the 10-year old girl who lived there…whose name was also Laura Buxton.
Laura Buxton from Milton Lilbourne wrote Laura Buxton from Stoke-on-Trent to let her know that she had found the balloon. Thinking this coincidence was simply too amazing to be true, they decided they had to meet in person. And that’s when things got really weird.
On the day of the meeting, the two girls wore the same outfit – a pink sweater and jeans. The girls were the same height, which was unusual because they were both tall for their age. They both had brown hair and wore it in the same style. They both had three-year old black Labrador Retrievers at home, as well as gray pet rabbits. They both brought their guinea pigs, which were the same color and even had the same orange markings on their hindquarters. It was almost as though these two Laura Buxtons were the same person.
The strange events surrounding their meeting have helped the girls form a strong bond, and they remain friends eight years later. Both feel the circumstances that brought them together are too significant to be written off as mere coincidence.

With Luft Balons and Message in a Bottle already in the post, I resisted the temptation to make a Synchronicity crack too… but if you really feel you need more 80s euro-rock there is always Falco. (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist the temptation to listen to more German pop after listening to Nena while posting this up.)

Video of the Week – Live From Shiva’s Dance Floor

Anomaly TeleVision » Blog Archive » Live From Shiva’s Dance Floor

Live From Shiva’s Dance Floor is a short documentary directed by acclaimed filmmaker Richard Linklater. The film follows Timothy “Speed” Levitch as he tours lower Manhattan and Ground Zero. Speed – a philosopher, historian and self-described “cruiser” – believes that “life is an ongoing opportunity for celebration.” The film focuses on how he can reconcile that belief with the devastating events of 9-11 and how we as a city and a society can mourn yet move forward. It also incorporates Speed’s unique vision of what should be done with the “sacred land” that is Ground Zero. This film was originally supposed to be part of an anthology of eight to ten films about 9-11 that the producers were working on for HBO. Their offices were in the Tribeca Film Center and everyday when they stepped out of the building and looked south, they saw the lights and cranes that populated Ground Zero. When the project fell through with HBO, the producers felt they still had something and decided to try and make the film independently. When the producers contacted Speed about the project, he thought Richard Linklater would be the perfect collaborator. Richard – who he knew from working on “Waking Life” – was immediately interested in the project and not only agreed to contribute his valuable time and considerable talents, but brought in some of his top colleagues as well. “Live From Shiva’s Dance Floor” is Linklater’s first documentary.
