Silver Screen Saucers and Ancient Astronauts

Robbie Graham reporting on the convergence of Silver Screen Saucers and popular conspiracy theories on Ancient Astronauts: In the current hard-copy issue of Empire magazine, however, Scott finally ‘outs’ himself as a proponent of the Ancient Astronaut theory, saying: “In the ‘60s there was a guy called Erich Von Daniken who did a very popular book called Chariots of the Gods?, and he proposed previsitation, which we all pooh-poohed. But the more we get into it, the more science accepts the fact that we’re not alone in this universe, and there’s every feasible chance that there’s more of us, not exactly as we are, but creatures that are organically living in other parts of this particular galaxy. (Stephen) Hawking said he thinks that there are and that he hopes they don’t visit. Because … Read entire article »

Bigfoot Every Day

Billboard heading North on South First. Will I see her again? Every day for the past six months I’ve seen her on my way to work. Her round hairy bosom and bounding wide stride juxtaposed next to the motionless sleek backside of a Cylon “Number Six” clone. In this odd billboard I’ve seen at 3 locations around Austin the advertisement’s designers have turned Patty into a “Patsy for Hair Removal,” hawking “the latest in medical and cosmetic services as well as relaxing spa treatments.” Of course, as much as the barebacked blond temptress reminds me of BSG actress Tricia Helfer the very name of the Serenity Creek Spa conjures sultry imagery of the same named sci-fi flick’s mysterious  “River Tam” played by actress Summer Glau. But today on the way to work, my drive-time … Read entire article »

Witch Hunters at Anomaly Magazine

Google Spams ANOMALY Magazine Not too long ago the PO Box for ANOMALY Magazine began getting spammed by multiple snail-mailings from Google.com offerring us discount coupons for use in their online adwords advertising service. What surprised us were the numbers of names and position titles that their addressing system included in the address lines which ranged from Programming Director to Paranormal Investigator. But the one that truly caught our attention (and which obviated how they had harvested names and titles from this site’s content) was marked for the attention of Thomas Muthee … WITCH HUNTER !! Clearly, the name had been lifted straight out of Jeremy Wells’ article on African Witch Stories or rather his Oooo Hooo Withcy Woman post about the strange connections between Sarah Palin and African Witch Hunters. Rest assured dear … Read entire article »

For you Comrades,

Because its Thursday Friday I know, I’ve been lazy. I blame the Capitalist running dogs for sucking all the energy out of me. But laying back a day enabled me to hear this little gem on NPR about Conde Nast publications advising GQ not to run a story by Scott Anderson in their Russian version of the magazine. The subject of Anderson’s article? Vladmir Putin’s Dark Rise to Power.  Putin’s rise from Prime Minister to President was based on his reactions to a series of “terrorist” bombings by Chechen separatists groups in 1999 that, some sources indicate, may have been orchestrated by some of Putin’s old KGB contacts. But good luck finding the story unless you happen to pick up GQ. The companies ban on printing the article abroad (at the advice … Read entire article »

Repub-Logan’s Run

The latest paranoia drenched half-truth to emerge in an apparent GOP race to the bottom is a doozy. A guest on former Senator Fred Thompson’s radio show, Betsy McCaughey, stirs up the scare factor by claiming that on page 425 of the massive HR 3200 is a provision requiring seniors to go through “mandatory” counseling that encourages them to end their life or demonstrate why they should be allowed to live every five years. Curious as to what in the world could be misinterpreted in such a way, I looked up the resolution, scrolled down to page 425, then back up a page to 424, where content begins so that I could get a greater scope of context. Read out of context, the content still seems fairly benign (for example, counseling … Read entire article »

Signs of the Econopocalypse part 1

In Latvia, folks desperate to pay their rent and other mounting costs aren’t quite selling their souls, yet; but they are mortgaging them according to a story from Reuters. (My apologies as well. I meant to post this yesterday, but work got kind of busy. I hope no one got too bored without their Thursday fix and sold their soul on a whim.) … Read entire article »

This is a nice game… for me to THURSDAY ON!

So, we missed the “because it’s Thursday” feature last week. Sorry about that. I had a whole thing on weird law enforcement planned, but I read Mack’s articles on the tasering of grandmothers and thought to myself “this is too serious an issue to dilute with frivolous arrest stories.” But this week we’re back, and leading off with the neatest free, educational game I’ve seen in a while; Wolf Quest. I mean, where else are you going to find a game that encourages kids to “harass grizzly bears with your mate” and pee on things? You can check out the promotional video here. Now, on to the pre-empted police insanity; it seems that cops in Ohio really have too much time on their hands. I mean you’d think that with a failing economy, … Read entire article »

ARG-Watch: May 2009

Watching the ARGonauts Play If you’ve followed the Elfis Network from the beginning then you know of my early interest in Alternate Reality Gaming and their potential for “mucking up the works” for paranormal and parapolitical researchers. You may also know that my interests were rekindled in 2007 by the provocative hypotheses of blogger DreamsEnd, who speculated that the mysterious suicides of artists Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake were some kind of sophisticated art hoax or viral marketing / alternate reality game. After a very rough period of defending his theories online, blogger DreamsEnd temporarily pulled up shop, taking down his websites. My own re-investigations into ARGland dwindled and I too went back to my normal para activities… That is until I became aware of a new blog that was following many … Read entire article »
