Reminder: Nick Redfern lecture on UFO CONTACTEES – Saturday, August 21st
Nick Redfern Lecture on Research into UFO – CONTACTEES Saturday, August 21st @ 7pm Austin Center for Spiritual Living 4804 Grover Ave. Austin, TX 78756 Free Event / Donations Welcome / Raffle Prizes Contactees: A History of Alien-Human Interaction We are not alone…and Nick Redfern can prove it. Contactees contains the fascinating stories of the select group of people chosen by visitors to Earth to spread their message. Are aliens really among us? Don’t be too quick to dismiss their claims. Truman Bethurum was divorced by his wife because she believed he was having close encounters of a very personal kind with a beautiful extraterrestrial “space captain” named Aura Rhanes. Is he nuts? Prescient? An omen? A band of eerily human-looking, blond-haired aliens–later known as the Space-Brothers–informed other contactees that they were concerned by our warlike ways and wished … Read entire article »

If all 3,000 members of this group contribute $5, we can pay off the cost of the lawyers.Oh, and if you want to refrain from going to Parkside, that would make me happy too! We’ve set up a fundraiser to help cover those costs. If you can help out go to thebestwurst.chipin.com to donate. Any amount helps! And of course, going down and buying a Best Wurst is another great way to help. The Best Wurst fans rock! Bigfoot Every Day
Billboard heading North on South First. Will I see her again? Every day for the past six months I’ve seen her on my way to work. Her round hairy bosom and bounding wide stride juxtaposed next to the motionless sleek backside of a Cylon “Number Six” clone. In this odd billboard I’ve seen at 3 locations around Austin the advertisement’s designers have turned Patty into a “Patsy for Hair Removal,” hawking “the latest in medical and cosmetic services as well as relaxing spa treatments.” Of course, as much as the barebacked blond temptress reminds me of BSG actress Tricia Helfer the very name of the Serenity Creek Spa conjures sultry imagery of the same named sci-fi flick’s mysterious “River Tam” played by actress Summer Glau. But today on the way to work, my drive-time … Read entire article »

Jung Society of Austin Lecture: Creative and Precognitive Dreams
Name: LECTURE: Creative and Precognitive Dreams Location First Unitarian Universalist Church, $12 members/$15 non-members Presenter Meredith Mitchell Semester FALL Start Date 2009-12-04 7:30pm End Date 2009-12-04 9:30pm Description: Did you know that perhaps the most popular song of all time, “Yesterday,” came to Paul McCartney in a dream? Dreams often function as mediators between the unconscious — where unfathomable mysteries seem to cook and coagulate — and consciousness. If we pay attention to the messages in dreams, we may give birth to unexpected and exciting ideas. Dreams can bring valuable insights as well. Sometimes, dreams seem to access the future, as in Abraham Lincoln’s dream of his death just before he was assassinated. We shall discuss both actual and legendary dreams that have given rise to significant changes, both personal and social. We shall also discuss verified dreams that have been precognitive or prophetic. How … Read entire article »

Military Indoctrination of Youth in America
Air Force Recruitment Bus for Elementary School Kids Last week I got quite a shock on my way out from my day-job’s parking garage. What should be staring straight at me but a big new bright blue U.S. Air Force recruitment bus. It was parked right alongside Waterloo Park on Trinity Street where many visiting tour buses park temporarily while their occupants generally tour the Capitol complex which is two blocks west of (behind) this camera shot. But I’m not used to seeing military recruitment buses among the tour-busloads of folks who are usually either an elderly lot or bunch of school kids (often dressed up in matching colored shirts to more easily spot them in a crowd). So I snap a picture of the bus and proceed on my … Read entire article »

Lunch Menu Review – Serranos at Symphony Square – Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas
Mind Meld With Miles Over Migas! Still no migas… but this time our review is at least TexMex. Lunch Menu Review – Serranos at Symphony Square – Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas Another extremely hot day downtown at lunch time this Summer. A few days into this Summer heat wave and I found myself eating at an outside venue that’s always been of interest to me. I’d run an errand in the car yet ended up dining at a locale nearby to where I work; definitely within walking distance lying at 1111 Red River Street. I found a nice shady spot in one of the two small parking lots across Red River from the restaurant. Despite having beaten the crowds and having the whole interior to myself I chose to brave the incredible heat and … Read entire article »

Lunch Menu Review – Shoal Creek Saloon’s Chicken Fried Steak Monday Special
Mind Meld With Miles… Over Migas! Back in the day… when I was fresh out of high-school and working at Austin’s downtown public library, my boss had a party for me. To promote the little day-job shindig she’d created a flyer with a picture of Star Trek’s Jean Luc Picard all Borged-out with the caption, “Mind Meld with Miles.” This was of course a gentle ribbing at my being such a brainy SciFi kind of guy, being into UFOs and whatnot. I still find her meme-melding of Vulcan mind-transference with cyBorgian assimilation to be rather cute, bridging the gap between Original and Next Generation Treks. Over the years that mnemonic has stayed in my mind and I’ve saved that old flyer. (I know it’s around here somewhere) The phrase has rattled … Read entire article »

Roadside Torture: Official Policy of Travis Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
SPECIAL REPORT from Mack White I defy anyone to watch this video (above) and give me one good reason why Travis County Deputy Chris Bieze was justified in Tasering a 72-year-old grandmother during a traffic stop. Yes, she was argumentative. Yes, she failed to comply with the officer’s order. But does this justify use of the Taser? Originally, Tasers were intended to be used by police only in situations where a gun might otherwise be used–that is, in situations where lives might be in danger. Rule of thumb: If a situation doesn’t require a gun, it shouldn’t require a Taser. And yet, increasingly, police are using the Taser not in dangerous situations, but simply to enforce compliance. … Read entire article »
